Yearbook Advisors are overworked (read my ‘Ode to Yearbook Advisors’ blog). Once the print yearbook
has finaled (use the word ‘final’ to a Yearbook Advisor, they will either shutter because their yearbook
has NOT finaled, or will giggle with delight because it has), what they dream about is a week on a
tropical island. What they don’t want is to do another damn yearbook!
We get it. But we are going to try to talk you into doing it again anyway… this spring!
My first punch is right to your emotional center. While I have stated multiple times in my blogs how
important I think print yearbook are for nostalgic and traditional reasons, I owe it to the students to
restate how, for years after the print book finds its final resting place in a box, YearBoxx will be right on
their phones, readily available. And… YearBoxx will be constantly updated, giving them more reasons to
open it up, And… it will help the class stay connected, And… it will have so many memories due to the
unlimited contend, And… the memories will be truly dynamic because of VIDEO content!
Alright, now that I have you gently smiling at what a great thing you will be doing for your students, how
the heck do I convince you to crank out that second yearbook this year?
Well, I want to restate the emotional thing you just read, but I won’t. If you take this double yearbook
route, there is going to be additional work… but, NEARLY as much as you think.
Fortunately, you will have already collected and curated much of the material needed to create the print
yearbook. It’s all in file on your computer named – Stuff for the damn yearbook!
And here is where things start to look up. To build, let’s say, the Basketball Team Section in YearBoxx,
you will simply pull the basketball pictures and DRAG THEM INTO YearBoxxCreate. Seconds later, you
are done… or the Yearbook Staff Member is done. The rest of the book follows the same procedure.
Your looking at simply hours to ‘final’ YearBoxx.
Your Staff is still going to have to take pictures of the end of year activities, like Prom and Graduation,
but by then, you will have forgotten what a hassle it was building the print yearbook and get all excited
about creating a Next Generation Yearbook that your students will actually use for the rest of their lives.
Feel free to shed a tear as you remember… I’m such a good person!
The short of it is that putting together a digital yearbook, especially using YearBoxxCreate, which was
purposely designed to be DRAG & DROP simple, really isn’t much additional work at all.
And the final result is going to be MAGNIFICANT… and APPRECIATED!
